Technology Tools to Support Teaching and Learning in the Humanities - Melissa Poole (St. Paul's School)
Humanities teachers have been using technology for many years, particularly to curate and examine content. Depending on the goals of your courses, there will be a number of tools that support enhancing the student learning experience. How does one immerse students in an understanding of Humanities and Social Science courses by having them emulate what professional scholars do? What tools are available to support collaborative work, project work, and improved writing skills? Are there techniques that assist teachers in balancing and integrating the learning of content and skills? Are there considerations for teaching Humanities courses in a longer block? This workshop will begin with some more generalized techniques and tools as well as attendee ideas to enhance the teaching and learning experience in the Humanities. By the beginning of the third block, the group will split into more specific discipline groups to fully explore tools that help to address the challenges of learning English, History, Religion, Art History, and other disciplines. There will be some emphasis on looking for opportunities to better integrate Humanities disciplines as some schools are doing. As such, integrated Humanities teachers will be critical to the success of this workshop.
